Feisty little girl...suggestions?

kamsgirl21 Oct 23, 2006 12:15 AM

I bought her from the captive breeders expo. Female never been held before I bought her no shes quite nippy. Been handling her and she didnt bite as much today as she did yesterday. got bit about 6 times today but about 30 times yesterday. I wore gloves of course. shes a really good eater. I fed her as soon as I got her home. moves around her cage well. she is constantly watching me while Im at my computer. I have her on my desk. she stares at me coiled back. she normally doesnt strike the glass. I was told by the breeder who sold her to me to just handle her and she will become tame. Slowly but surely I think it will work...but Im not ready to take the gloves off yet..
any suggestions would be great..thank you

Meghan

The link to your image of her doesn't work.

What kind of python are we talking about?

If you just got her within the last day or two, I'd leave her alone for a good week or so before starting to handle her.

shes JCP

Yup- then you're in for a treat.

Most baby pythons are pretty nippy, but JCP's especially from what I've heard/seen.

Give the little guy some time to settle down, then handle on a regular basis, and be very patient.

I actually just got my first baby JCP last week, too, but have several buddies who have them.

My little guy is the same way- I can get him out no problem if I do it without hesitation. Once out, he's pretty cool, unless you go anywhere near his head- pretty much guarantees a hit.

No sudden movements/jerks, and no hedging. If you're going to pick him up, then do it- don't back away/flinch- that'll just make things worse.

She has been doing better. found out something strange while I had her out last night...she likes her chin rubbed. she just sat there and didnt move didnt flinch.

Nice lookin JCP!

Also- not sure if I just don't see it, but you definitely want to get at least one hide spot in there for her, but better to have two- one on the warm side, and one on the cool side.

Make sure it's not too small, but not so big that she can't feel it when curled up inside...

Why was there a pic of a water python at the top of the thread?

Why not? ;-D

Actually, it was because she didn't mention in her original post what kind of python she was asking about, and the link to her image was dead.

P.S. It's an olive- not a water...

Ah....ok. I saw the JCP and thought...nope. The underside looked more yellow in the pic, which is why I thought Water Python.
