Here's a few finds from Corpus Christi to Brownsville and around the southern parts of Texas for all you Great White Northerners! The cool snaps are starting to make it down here now and I went out from Nueces county down to Kennedy county and back up to Jim Wells county hitting all my best spots for some last chances at seeing some of the good stuff before the weather sends 'em down for the big nap! All in all it was a very good day with several species seen and Except for gators and sallies all herps were accounted for. Went out to check on a breeding colony of indigos near my home town and wasn't dissapointed. While there I saw Gulf Coast toadlets and Rio Grande Leopard frogs as well a many butterflies and dragon flies. Then it was further south for some lizard hunting and I chased many Cnemidophorus and some of what I guess would be earless lizards through the sand in Kennedy county. While photoing the lizards I happen to look down to find a juvenile Texas gopher tortoise munching on greens at my feet. Arun down the road a bit further south finds a d.o.r. Northern cat-eyed snake, some Gulf Coast ribbons, a Mexican racer and a western coachwhip. Rounding out the night were the big crotes with 2 freshly hit westrn diamond-backed rattlesnakes and 1 aor that musked the hell out of me! Hope you enjoy the ride!
