How 'bout some splendies?!

antelope Oct 23, 2006 04:10 AM

Here's some updated pics of my colony. It is feeding frenzy day and one of the last before shut down. First a new w.c. rescued from a rain filled gas well. She is an '06 Mustang Island splendida with lots of brown, which is unusual for this part of the county.

Next up is the Arizona monster, a w.c. from somewhere in Arizona. I acquired him from the local pet store from a good friend that didn't get good locality data foe him so he's a generic, but unlike any of the others I have.

Here is a west Nueces animal that has no black at all and pounds the mice! I really like this chocolate splendida and hope to find him a mocha momma to keep this line going. Could he be hypererytristic? (sp) Again, unlike any others I have run across.

Nice pics Todd. I like that last pic with you and the splendida playing tug a war over the mouse. Very nice looking kings.

Thanks, Steve. Yeah we have this game, I throw, he catches and doesn't throw back, lol! I am really excited about that one as he has no black, just brown and yellow, and I rescued a little one that I hope probes female that looks very similar, just very small.

You've got some awesome splendidas. Those little babies were tiny. Never seen 'em that small. How many do you have in all? Adults? Juvies? You're going to brumate your '06s as well?

I have 9 splendies now:
3.2.4 3 adult males, 1 adult female, 1 '04 unknown, 1 '05 unknown, and 2 '06 unknown.
I am gonna brumate the 4 adults and keep the '04-'06's up for growth feeding. Hope some of my unknowns turn female. I did pair up my Brewster county black and white splendida and they go down for the big nap around Thanksgiving so I hope to get some nice babies from them next spring, and backbreed one or more of the daughters to the male in '09, dang that's a long time but maybe something will happen and I will find more females next year. He will be my busiest snake soon!
