Those of you who also keep boas...

johnavilla Oct 23, 2006 09:41 AM

do any of you keep boas and pythons in the same room? How long do you quarentine your boas before introducing them into your snake room? I realy want to get into red tails and BRBs in the next couple of years (starting on bloods next year) so any info would be great. Thanks.

If you can, it doesn't hurt to keep them separate. When I am at home I have my boas upstairs, and my dad keeps his ball pythons in the basement.

Certain pathogens can kill some species while they do nothing in another. I don't think this is a concern with any Boids (outside of introducing new stock to your collection), but it never hurts to be safe.

IBD. Boas are more likely to be asymptomatic carriers so the idea of getting one scares me but I really like red tails and BRBs.

Just make sure you wash real good if going from Boas to Pythons. I pick a certain day to only clean Boas. Don't use anything communal between the two either, especially what you use to clean water bowls. The other way IBD can be spread is through mites.

I keep a pair of DH snows in the same room with my 6 balls, no problems.
