release of fluid?

joeiecrack Oct 23, 2006 01:59 PM

I found a ball python outside at work today.. I belive it is a ball becouse it was wraped up tight in one and looks like all the pics i could find.... well I broght it home and but it in a big plastic bin untill i get my 55 gal set up for it... It deficated and released about 3 to 4 tabelspoons of really stank fluid and liiked like about a tabelspoon of blood..the fluid was thick and seperated from the blood like the blood was on the bottom..and the color of the fluid was like a dark ginger ale color.. Im not sure if it was from shock or what...its cold in va now....like 40 to 50 at night for the past few weeks..Im gessing it was released or lost in the past 6 months or so...becouse Im not sure about the survival in the climate...but Im hopeing its ok...any input would be tons appreciated thanx

Take it to the vet...

Check inside its mouth for mouth rot, check its outer scales for scale rot, and take it to a vet ASAP!

And, if you have any other snakes, keep it far away from them as well!

well i showed the pics to someone online and thay think it could be a relation to a ball that is venomos..so looking inside the mouth might not be done...Im trying to get in tuch with someone at the local living museam.

There are no near relations to a ball python that are venemous, so you'll be fine. Neither pythons nor boas are venemous, they kill their prey by constriction.

As stated before me, take it to a vet ASAP!
