New rhino baby

rlpc117 Oct 23, 2006 02:31 PM

Hi there, I just got a new baby rhino, YAY!! I got him from a breeder and they ship it to me last friday. He is kind of aggressive and emotional, maybe due to the new environment and the stress over shipping, but he is one cute little guy. I have never had a rhino before, so I'm wondering if anyone can share some of their experience with me regarding taming. Right now he will bob his head, whip his tail and open his mouth whenever he saw me walking close to his cage. Sometimes i even hear hissing sound. I decided to let him calm and leave him do his observing in his cage for a week or so, and then start the tamimg. How do you guys usually do it? any different from green iguana? are they more sensitive to certain things or action? Any advice would help, any tricks, problem faced...etc. Thanks

PS Good luck with your babie

yes taming these lil guys can take a long time, they are the hardest to tame, the way i do mine is, just hand feed them a few leaves of hibiscus or collard greens, and your lil guy will realize that your not gonna hurt him when that happens try have him chase the food up onto your arm(dont try to pick him up yet ) when you get him to run up your arm a few time try then taking him out of his cage, with allot of daily handling he will come tame in a month or two , if handled once or twice a day give it about 6-7 months....do you have pics? who was the breedr?

Mike
