Cleaning my gecker tank

Ungaboo Aug 06, 2003 05:10 PM

After frequently misting my rhacs' 20 gallon terrarium with dechlorinated tap water, as well as wiping down the glass with a wet cloth or paper towel once a week, the glass has become badly stained with splotches and blobs that can't be cleaned off with water alone. Unfortunately, there would obviously be difficulties involved in using most cleaning products. I doubt that there's anything that would get the job done which wouldn't be toxic to them, but I'd love to be proven wrong. My better guess is that I could very carefully wash the stained sections of glass with water and vinegar, and then very carefully wash the vinegar off those same sections with water alone. If I did this very carefully, would there still be a problem?

Also, I've started to wipe the tank down with distilled water to reduce the development of new stains on the glass. Would it also be safe to mist the tank with distilled water? I know that I'm not supposed to give them distilled water in their water dish, and since they also drink a certain amount of the mist, I have to ask.

Try a razor blade (old style), will get most anything off glass.
