I have just taken possession of a B.rosaliae male born 06. Whos working with these jewels? Any particulars to be concerned with regarding these guys? Current research revealed little other than hot, dry, and small meals. Can anyone chip in on this thread and offer some insight.

I'd add "an extremely well-ventilated enclosure" to the very tippety-top of that list. There is nothing more important than a well-ventilated enclosure when keeping Bogertophis. Either a screen top or a well-drilled rack tub (make it look like pegboard on steroids LOL). That's my $.02 of very well-earned advice.

Dusty, could you please expound on that issue just a bit more? I've got three juvies in aquariums & one 3 yr old in a custom wooden enclosure ( with low ventilation ). The juvies eat with abandon but the young adult is super finicky. Connection, perhaps? Thanks.

Yes I too would like to hear about this. I live in the desert so we inherently have low RH. In my room (where I plan on keeping my sw rats) it is 37% as I type not too bad. I was thinking of using 20gal longs, screen slide top, with a ceramic element at one end. These would be placed in a stackable rack of sorts.
?...would it be possible to keep them in the standard tub/rack system if one were to use screen tops and drilled numerous holes in the tub?

Relatively low geographical RH helps, but it's the humidity inside the cage that matters. Stagnant, germ-laden, humid air in a cage can quickly reach lethal levels in any geographical location.

Anything with a screen top would be excellent.

Yeah, with good advice I've received from folks like Dusty and "Saddleman" on here about Bogertophis, I went to overkill.
I put fans on my suboc cages.

Thanks Dusty, I think I will stick to the tubs with either screen tops or heavy drilling, the tanks are just too heavy, bulky and difficult to mess with.

feeding. Too large or too often can lead to regurge problems. Take it easy and slow with these guys, do not push them.

Thanks John, I had heard that also and figured since my triaspis is not fond of large meals it would follow that the other "SW" rats would have the similiar prefs. Thanks again for the tips!

Any one have any idea what regs are on these guys in CA? I have tried to research it in the DFG Reg book but only found an old outdated write-up suggesting that the species be fully protected until more info was gathered on them. Anyone heard anything? Can you collect these snakes legally? Thanks

CA Fish and Game held a public comment session a year or two ago and they did attempt to list them but due to comments from I believe Rick Staub and Paul Lymum they were not able to. The comments were to the effect that since this species has not been officialy confirmed to occur in CA they cannot be protected as a native species. The one specimen that was found was a DOR on Hwy. 8 in Imperial County and it is not accepted as valid by many because no others have been found.
