xNeViNx Oct 23, 2006 04:15 PM

i have a 1 1/2yr old 4ft male, compleatly healthy. hes never, ever refused a meal a day in his life. last week i brought home a female that is ready to breed. now all the sudden he doesnt want to eat, and he has refused 2 meals. the smallest male i have ever breed was 5 1/2'. all the husbendry is right, and i didnt cool him down. and everything i open his cage he starts going the way of the female boa. any ideas? think he was wants to breed? this just doesnt make sence to me
thanx

Breeding has more to do with maturity than it does with size. The general opinion is that the minimum age for BCI is 18 months for a male and 3 years for a female. This being said, your male is sexually mature and judging by his actions he is ready to breed. If you are prepared to breed him there is nothing wrong with doing so. As a side note, some feel that younger males attribute to low fertility (more slugs), but as far as I am aware there is no conclusive evidence to back it up.

ha well thank you. i use breeding racks, and as soon as i open him tub.... oh man, befor he would go any way, but now he goes right for my bigger female's cage. and as i said, he has for the 1st time in his life turned down, now 2 meals. im deff going to put him in with one of my smaller females. shes about 6'1". but here is a pic of the him ontop of the MUCH bigger female that he keeps going after....

thanks very much again,

it's been a week. How's that male doing? Is he breeding your female?

him with a smaller female that i felt wouldnt crush him. hes still hasnt ate, but hes been doing nothing but staying curled up inside the coils of the female. and everytime i bother them i see the tails rapped around eachother. i really want to put him with the bigger female that is pictured in the above post because they are both het albino. i was kinda hopping i would sorta get an okay from someone that has paired boas in such a large diff in size, but i just think she is to big. so i donno.
thanks for asking

I can not say from personal experience but I have read the expereinces of others many many times. All accounts say that if the male is willing the size is not an issue. I say go for it.

I can say from personal experience, you can do it. My experience consists of only one pair like that, but they were quite sucessful breeders, making 4 clutchs in 5 years. Just watch for a while after you put them together, like you would any pair. if you think about it, the male is going to be on top of the female for most of courting and breeding anyway, except the last few inches of them anyway : )
