is this a leachianus?

superstimpy Oct 23, 2006 09:53 PM

I'm buying this gecko from a guy on craigs list. If its a leachianus he's selling it to me for cheap. If its anything else (like a halmahera giant gecko) the price is expensive. I just want to make sure its definately a leachianus before i buy it. He says its 12 inches long and makes singing and croaking noises. and puffs up and arches his back when angry. thanks for the help.

That is a really horrible photo. From the photo I would say definitely NOT an R. leachianus. The tail looks much too long. The best way to distinguish the leachie from the marginata ( despite others calling it vorax) is to look at the eyes, toes, or tail.
G. marginata will have a much longer tail, claws that are not covered by skin over the nail part, and much different looking eyes. All R. leachianus will have a shorter tail in comparison to the body.
This is my judgement from the photo that is provided, but like I said, it is not a good photo, particularly to try to determine what species of gecko it is.

Thanks for the reply. I know its a bad picture but thats what the guy sent me. here's one from the top view if that is a little more helpful. its still a crappy picture though. He keeps telling me it related to a crested gecko, but I'm not sure if he's just saying that to rip me off.
