Young Corn not eating...

SimpleChaos55 Oct 24, 2006 01:12 PM

My young Corn Snake (6-7 months old) has not eaten in the past 4 weeks. He also seems to have a shedding problem. He shed twice but the skin stayed on his body and when he pulled away from me, the two layers finally pulled away from him (both in one piece). Since then he's shed twice (but I only pulled the skin off a week and a half ago!) He still won't eat, and just today I notice a lump; it's hard and I think it's a tumor. It's about 4-5 inches down from his head and I think that's why he's not eating. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/etc. because I'm really worried about him.

As far as I can tell, he is doing better. I didn't take him to the vet because I wanted to try one last time to feed him and see if he ate. I also checked the lump that was on him and it seems to have slimmed down; although I don't think it's completely gone. He ate, but it took him a little over an hour to actually swallow the pinky; which worried me a little bit. But now he seems to be content. Should I still take him to the vet just in case?

that is a long time for a snake to swallow. It definitely sounds like it might be great idea to take him to the vet, as he might have an obstruction of some kind in his throat.

Well, it took him all of two minutes to actually swallow the pinkie, but he pushed at it for about ten minutes, then tried butt first, then tried head first, then actually ate the thing. He seems fine today as well.
