Aussie reptiles from the US?

Aka2212 Oct 24, 2006 01:58 PM

I was told today, that it was illegal to export CB australian reptile species, such as Womas, bearded dragons, carpet-pythons etc.?
Can this really be true?
I would imagine one should have a export permit and maybe prove they are captive bred...

Thanks

That was exporting them from the US.

So europeans could no longer buy australian reptiles from the US without spending years of waiting for a permit..

It is my understanding that for CITES listed animals, you must have a CITES export permit from USFWS. In order to get that permit you have to prove to the satisfaction of USFWS not only that they are captive bred, but that their original ancestors entered the U.S. legally.
So, of the 3 you mentioned, this would apply to womas and carpet pythons. I do not believe there are any export permits required for bearded dragons.
