about feeding...

When I gave Tabasco some dandelion greens and collard greens last night, he didn't touch them. But when I held one in front of him, he ate it. So I put the whole bowl in front of him and he ate it all. So I refilled it and he ate half. But today, I put the bowl back in its usual spot, he dragged the leaf pieces everywhere, and I am not sure if he ate any. Has this happened to anyone else? Also, Deer Fern Farms mentioned clover greens. Does this meen the shamrocks that grow in bunches all over the place?

Forget about seeing a programmed feeding response from a Uro. You'll go nuts on that item. They eat when nature tells them.
For one thing, how often do you suppose, in a desert environment, a Uro lucks up on a whole bowl full of luscious leafy greens? If he did, chances are he'd be enormously satiated & happy & lay low the next couple days. People can't do that very easily but reptiles can & must. Quit thinking like a mammal!
Are you offering a wide variety "seed bowl"? Really important to think beyond the greens. Offer parakeet food, bulghar wheat, buckwheat groats, oat groats, lentils, barley, seed sprouts, mung beans, soy beans, bee pollen, etc., see the care sheets...
Best of luck.

It's not unusual if they eat real good one day for them to not seem hungry the next day or two. They often eat in spurts, gorge one day, skip the next, nibble the next. Like Arrendondo said you'll go nuts if you expect them to eat like we do. A variety is good too, including seeds etc. If you give them a mix they will eat what they need when they need it. They know their needs better than we do.

But is it normal that he drags it everywhere?

Arredondo Oct 25, 2006 07:26 PM

Most normal, unfortunately! Messy little buggers.

Uros have a BAD habit of walking through their food bowls and making a mess. It happens most often when they aren't hungry. They're funny that way.
