Pink belly ?

stevebp Oct 24, 2006 11:44 PM

I have a male ball python that is not going to shed but has very pink ventral scales going fron his cloaca to his upper neck region. He's in a vision cb-70 rack and the temp is 88 deg. on the side with the heat cable. He doesn't move around alot and always stays inside his hide box.I have other balls in the rack but no other snake has this pinkish tinge to thier ventral scales.Any help in solving this problem would be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!!

The first sign of shed that we generally see is the blueish tint to the eyes. But, just before that happens, many times you can see the belly go pink. That said, you didn't say how long it has been this way. If it persists, and he doesn't go blue in the next day or so, then you might consider a vet visit. My bet is he will be blue by tomorrow. With my son's albinos, the pink belly is the easiest way to tell they're in shed! Eyes just turn slightly lavendar, and the skin on top looks pretty much normal. I see lavendar eyes, then I look at the belly. If its pink, he (or she) is in shed.
