? About Compatible Ghost Lines

fgs Oct 25, 2006 01:29 PM

I purchased a male ghost from Pro Exotics about three years ago. I am in the process of selling some of his daughters on Kingsnake. A potential customer has sent me an e-mail asking me what line is my yellow ghost from and is it compatible with other lines of ghosts.

I left a message with Robin at Pro Exotics with hopes of getting information about this particular ghost.

My question is what can you guys tell me about the diferent lines of ghosts and which ones are compatible. My worst fear is that Robin is going to call me back and tell me that he doesn't have much information about this particualr ghost... then what?

Here is a photo of the father of the females I'm selling along with a female Bell Line Pastel.

Thanks in advance for information that might help.

Most hypo lines have proven to be compatible - with the exception of Grazianis G1 line and the Citrus ghost (?I think?). If Pro exotics is working with an established line - then it is most likely compatible - if they are working with a new line - then they would have to tell you if they've proven it compatible with the others.

Hope this helps.

Tasha:

Thanks for the information. I guess all I can do at this point is keep my fingers crossed that this is a proven compatible line.

I appreciate your help.

Most Orange, Butterscotch and Yellow Ghost are compatible. Some might not be, but most are. The Green Ghost seems to be less compatible “usually”. Actually Green Ghost from my experience, have not been compatible with other lines but that is my experience. A few people have their so called “Hypo” lines that do not seem compatible with most other Ghost lines. The ones that I have seen do not look really like Ghost anyway. They have more contrast and they also might not have clear sheds like “true Ghost” or Hypo’s. The so called Hypo’s might be technically Hypo’s even if they are not as extreme as traditional “Ghost” “Hypo’s” from established proven lines. The clear shed is unusual and makes the traditional Ghost “Hypo’s” even more unique as it would any Hypo. The Hypo lines that are not the traditional Ghost would in my opinion be a variation of Hypo but not the same thing. This is only my opinion based on my experience with Ghost since 93’. I am currently working with 6 different lines of traditional Ghost “Hypo’s”.

Sincerely, Kyle

So maybe you are the guy I remember reporting to have a bunch of ghosts years ago. Why aren't they more common by now?

One word, divorce! I had a lot of Ghost and at the time none of the Ghost were even featured in publications. Most people did not know what they looked like. I was breeding them and selling them but a nasty divorce put my thoughts else where. I kept some of my animals, but I did not breed them for about 5 years. I also did not try to produce a lot of them each year but instead I selectively bred them and sold the hets and the Ghost that I did not want to keep. My reputation was established with the Ghost that I produced and the fact that I had very nice looking Ghost in my collection. I kept some of them and I bred them in 05’ “produced some Pastels het for Yellow Ghost” and this year I am breeding Ghost to Ghost “Butterscotch to Yellow”. Prior to the divorce I had 10 adult Ghost, 8 of which I had produced myself. They were Butterscotch and Yellow Ghost. Both were my own lines from imported hatchlings I had collected years ago.
