HELP! supertiger skin problem

geraldsnakes Oct 25, 2006 05:57 PM

hi i have a supertiger retic and i have had him for 8 months. He eats ok ( he gets distracted some times), he also sheds regularly and most times in one peice... he is in a 4X2X3' glass enclosure the temps are 80-85 in the cage and around 90-95 in the hot spot.I went in there yesterday to check him out and clean the water and he was ready to shed, but some of the skin bubbled up, and when i picked him up a spot opened and he was gray not the yellowish tan he had been...there were also some blood streaks on him. he is in a tubberware now, with some water at 88 degrees right now..if anyone can help me or tell me what this could be it would be great....also i found a vet about 2 hours a way from me that is supposed to be very good, but he just had a death in the family and won't be back untill next week at the earliest..thanks Gerald
ps i have some pics if you can tell me how to post them i will

I am not trying to scare you but this does not sound good. It almost sounds like a severe skin infection and if so it travels quickly. It is the blisters that worries me. I would place the snake on paper if you are not already. Sometimes this is caused by keeping the snake too humid or moist. You can over do humidity to the point where it is down right wet and this is not good. Don't wait and get the snake to the vet as soon as possible.

Please post pics

Also, watch for and check out the risk of burns. Glass can form very hot spots and if the snake sits too long it can get localized burns from the overheated undertank glass.

I agree with too much humidity being a problem, paper towels or newspaper best for now and make sure it has a cool spot.

OTC neosporin probably wont hurt while you wait for professional help.

Besides agreeing with the "get to a vet ASAP" folks, here's how to post the pics since you asked:

If you click on "photo gallery" up at the top of the page, in the mass of links with the forums, there'll be an option to login and post photos. If you follow those instructions, you can put photos on Kingsnake. Then, when you make a post, there'll be a box at the bottom with the titles of the photos you've uploaded and you can click on them to add them in to your post.

Good luck,

-P
