Insulated Tank?

kwnbee Oct 25, 2006 08:56 PM

I saw a booth at a reptile show selling tanks with a faux rock background made from foam insulation; while it was very attractive is it better than say a vision cage or rack? I have heard tanks aren't so hot because they lose humidity. What is the best thing for someone to use that doesn't need a rack?

Fish tanks are difficult to keep the humidty up. You can block off some if the top to keep the humidity in and use a combination undertank heater with a smaller bulb for basking. The incandescent bulbs really dry the tank out.

I think it really depends on your space and budget. Vision cages are awesome, but cost alot more than a fish tank.

Also, alot of people start off with one snake, then end up with 50 or 100 of them. In that situation a rack may be best because 50 or 60 Vision cages take up alot of space and alot of cash.

you live too. I live in Ma. which has a relatively humid climate in the summer and a relatively arid climate in the winter. I find that I am able to keep my glass tank humidity perfect (55-60%)in the summer by covering some of the top and in the winter by covering most of the top and occasionaly misting.

I live in CA so I can't count on high humidity. I actually found a guy selling a vision cage 221 for $50 including heat and light. I think that sounds like a good deal. What do you guys think?
