Thoughts on Sick little tegu

birddog5151 Aug 06, 2003 06:51 PM

As I read the comments below, cheering under my for a public execution I had to wonder...What is the real problem and who is to blame??? Is education needed? Do pet stores and breeders have a responsibility to make sure when I take home little slithers or crawley I have a proper place to keep them when they need a custom built enclosure the size of a third world home??? I have to run an errand with my wife. I look forward to your responses.

If you decide to get an animal as a pet, any animal, your taking its life into your hands. It is the owners responsibility to properly care for an animal, and to know how to do so before purchasing one. Pet stores can only do so much, but perhaps provide care sheets for individual species. THere is a vast wealth of knowledge available to anyone, via internet or books on reptile husbandry. The fault lies within the owners, undoubtedly. And in the case of my recently aquired tegus, the old owner knew just how to manitain them... there plight is the result of pure neglect
