Unfortunately, floppy tail syndrome is irreversible. Your friend should make sure the gecko has proper calcium supplimentation and a variety of perches available. It has been theorized that geckos in captivity spend a lot of time on the walls of their enclosures, and this causes a great deal of stress on their tail and pelvis. Make sure the gecko has a variety of branches placed horizontally and vertically to minimize the amount of time it spends on the tank walls. There's a section in "Rhacodactylus: the Complete Guide to their Selection and Care" about diseases that covers floppy tail syndrome - it's a great book to have when you own crested geckos. I'm by no means an expert, but I hope this helped! Cheers.
