Should I give my Boa away?

jps40 Oct 26, 2006 10:11 AM

I have had my Boa or 6 years now. He is very healthy, I've never had any problems with him. Unfortunatly, I can not spend the time with him that I used to. My job is becoming very demanding and months go by where I don't take him out of the cage except to clean the cage or feed him. I'm not sure if this is unhealthy for the snake to remain in his cage that long with out any kind of stimulation. I'm torn on what is the best thing to do for the animal. If anyone has any advice for me, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Snakes don't crave human attention like a dog or cat. If you'd like to keep him and are worried about him being bored just fancy up his cage a little, give him some branches to climb on, more hides, fake greenery. Put something new in once in awhile so he can investigate. He'll be fine.

Snakes dont like people. they dont like being picked up. they dont like going on walks, or watching tv, or being around screaming children. As long as you are housing it properly, and still have time to feed and clean it, you're not doing it any wrong by not messing with it. If you still enjoy it, keep it. If you feel you are streched too thin and dont really want it anymore, give it away. But back to the original question, youre fine.

I agree. They are not affectionate animals and do very well if left alone.

if your not checking in on it at least twice "everyday"
changeing water and washing container at least every 3rd day.
Without minimal basics it would be hard to believe overall care for a liveing animals basic needs are being met.Cage cleanings regular feedings etc.
It happens all to often and animals suffer because of it!If your any where near this point then do the animal a favor and get it a proper owner before it gets bad.
