looking for a non-vet diagnosis

dragonjustice Oct 26, 2006 08:15 PM

Greetings
My bf and I have 3 adult red-tails presently housed together. One is showing the mucus of a respiratory infection. Additionally all three have red spots on their gums (the one with the mucus more so), and all have pink/red ventral scales.
They all ate recently and only the one with the mucus (so far) is at all wheezy. Obviously they all need a vet, but does anyone know what the red spots and the red scales are symptoms of? Also, does anyone know of rescues or of interested individuals in the Baltimore/DC area? We love our babies, but our housing is transitional and may continue to be for longer than our babies can survive it. And winter is coming.
Any help on any of this would be appreciated.

I would say that it is some type of respiratory disease, just from what I have heard of. I've known this to create some red scales too. My neighbors adopted a snake that had these issues. It went away after it shed, and got some medicine.

Thank you. Any suggestions about anything over the counter?

As for medicine, I'll have to go talk to the neighbor. It's a little late now, but I will try to ask him tomorrow. Sorry I can't be of more immediate assistance. Where are you located? I know of a cheap vet in my area, and he does an amazing job.

Like I said, any help would be appreciated. We're in Laurel, MD.

here's a list of rescues from anapsid, there is a couple in MD, and one in VA. Good luck!

Thanks for the new link. I didn't really see any snake rescues, but maybe I'll be able to find individuals by contacting the societies. And, Duhhhh, thank you for reminding me that I need to look in Virginia as well-- I had contacted the few places I saw only in Maryland. Hell, PA is still an option too.

I'm still hoping it won't come to that--- just got a job offer, so I'm hoping the money will soon get us on our feet right.

Thanks again.

You're welcome, good luck keeping your snakes, and good luck on that RI.
