Question about mites

waspinator421 Oct 26, 2006 10:08 PM

Hello everyone, just had a question. I found a tiny white bug crawling on a snake probe today. I thoroughly checked all snakes that were out, and didn't find a speck. I googled reptile mites and it seems they are dark in color? Should I worry? I know last time I got worried about mites they ended up being grain mites.

Thanks for your time!

i have gotten bags of bedding (mulch) that must of had some gnat eggs in it and when they hatched i got worried. but having delt with mites once before i know, like you said they generaly are dark in color, just keep an eye on the snakes check their bellies and necks, and you should be ok. also check the water bowl, usually there will be mites that have drown in the bottom. if it turns out you do have mites, there is always prevent-a-mite which is great stuff, if used correctly.

good luck

Adam

Thanks very much. I'll worry a little less now, and keep an eye on them. Perhaps I'll get a thing of prevent-a-mite anyway, in case of a future outbreak. Thanks again!

If you do use it make sure you follow directions exactly, it can be pretty harmful in used incorrectly, i usally let the enclosure air out for atleast 1 1/2-2 hours just to be sure
