SW ratsnake species, I need some more ideas which center around ventilation, heating and ease of maintenance. Tanks vs Tubs vs Custom? Thanks in advance!

I like Toby's and Terry's setups with the gallon jugs, although I don't use them myself. I use aspen a large water dish and a hollow half log, very basic with a screen top on terrarium. We have some pretty hugh humidity in Corpus Christi, Texas, but my snake room knocks it down some. I will get some crappy pics up for you.

Great Todd, I'll look forward to some pics. I foresee a pair of B.rosaliae 06/05 mix that will be using the enclosures.

cheers

I think the poster is asking about caging for Bogertophis, Todd. I know you have some, but I don't. From what I understand, subocs and Baja rats need drier air and lots of ventilation. I use mostly large tubs for my southwestern rats (Pantherophis guttatus meahllmorum), with a LOT of humidity, as they come from a very humid environment. The humidity ranges from 60% to 80% inside the tubs, and would probably not be good for Bogertophis. FWIW, my Davis Mountain bairdi seem to do very well at fairly high humidity, as well.

ps. Photo of 3 1/2 year old female meahllmorum in moist hide. Even at high ambient cage humidity, these snakes spend a lot of time in even higher humidity, inside their moist hides. -TB

My bad, well, my big boy has the room to roam in and a dedicated drawer in a dresser that all my other cages sit on. He wasn't doing well in a tub that I had set up with some rocks from his area and kept spilling the water so I let him out. He suns in the afternoon on the windowsill and then prowls at night. I have a large 100 gl. aquarium that I put mice in and he comes and goes, next day 3 mice disappear. He has access to water in 2 locations. Not your ideal setup, but I am working on a rock wall/vertical cage that is big enough for him. I just feel he is too large for any enclosure that I have now, and he doesn't slither away when I come in for cleaning/feeding, he just watches. My '05 girl is in a large tub wityh a small water bowl and a rock ledge setup. I think they can do well in a well ventilated but tight enclosure when small, but may want to go vertical as they get older. Just my .02 on bogeys, love to see them when you get them. Oh yeah, I am certain they can find spots with good humidity when they need to in the wild.
