New to corn snakes

2doxies Oct 27, 2006 10:43 AM

I'm new to this forum as we just got a snow corn snake (Pedro). I have been on the bearded dragon forum prior to this for our beardie (Napoleon)....starting to see the Napoleon Dynamite theme??? I have found all of the info. I need reading the posts on this forum, but I'm still not sure about what/if any lighting is needed to provide day/night cycle. Pedro is in a 20 gallon, under tank heater, aspen substrate. We fed him for the first time yesterday which was very cool. Also, how often to they go to the bathroom and what does it look like?

Welcome to the wonderful world of corns! I like to use a natural light cycle. My snake room gets enough daylight through a small window that the cycle changes with the season. I usually only go in and turn on the lights during the daytime, although I will do so any time I choose.

Some folks like to use longer days, especially in the winter. There's not a ton of discussion on this topic & it does not seem like a critical one. As you have probably found out by now, you don't need to worry about uv light as your snake will get everything it needs from its rodent diet.

To answer your other question: Looks like bird poop. The black & white combo platter.
