Between a rock and a hard place......

kellybee Oct 27, 2006 01:51 PM

My greenies want to sleep, really want to sleep, i can almost hear them shouting "TURN THE LIGHTS OFF!!!!"

I have never experienced this with any of my past lizards, they eat well and have the occasional crazy spurts of energy, but I feel so sorry for them, at first I figured it would pass, but then it didnt.

I've been reading posts about people brumating indoors at room temperature, and as our temps are starting to fall, am wondering is 15 in the day and 9 at night cold enough? I refuse to put them in the fridge, I really need an alternate opinion, does anyone else brumate indoors WITHOUT using the dreaded fridge?

My lizards are doing the same thing... especially because they are this years wc... but just too skinny to handle the hibernation just yet.

Ever thought of the garage? Doesn't seem half as bad as the fridge.

I'm afraid I live in a second floor apartment, we dont have a garage, and the loft doesnt have a ladder or a light, but good idea. My mom-in-law has a garage but she doesnt live so close, and it will mean only being able to check on them at the weekend

Thanks though

Kel, don't sweat it over the proper temperatures for brumation or using a garage or your fridge. I never used either, mind you being Southern California, the garage isn't the best place. Bonnie and Clyde just put up a sign, "Don't wake us up until Spring." and pretty much slowed down and slept on their own. I soaked them and checked on them over the time they self-brumated. I did shorten the length of time the light was on and they did move around every now and again but they did it themselves. The household temperature duing our winters, (*snicker* they call it winter here) is around 70 to 75 degrees Farenheit.

Hey thanks,

I've been home all day today and they have hardly moved, except for when I fed them, and they went crazy as always, they both jumped in the box of grass hoppers this morning, which made me smile, and they both scoffed themselves silly, tails curled and wide eyed, lol. I love them to death, I'm really going to miss them when they sleep. Maybe I'll wait another week before I stop feeding them, and stuff them full of wax worms, that way I'll be happy they have got some fat on them before they sleep, and I'll weigh them first so I can monitor their weight, seeing as they wont be as cold as the "norm".

Thanks again hun, I really appreciate it
Kel

PS: I was planning on moving to the US or Hawaii if I won the Euromillions last night but it didnt happen, so I guess I'll be staying here for now

well kel, just so you know, hawaii is a part of the US LOL, just had to pick on you

i never brumated my guys. some would slow down on their own. i kept everything the same since normally one in a cage would be sleep and the other one not. i just let them do what they want to do
