AP economy plastic rack questions....

RObertIIII Oct 27, 2006 08:36 PM

What the difference between the economy plastics and the economy rack? besides the open back and sides? They are both made out of Melamine right? Or is the plastic one made out of plastic? also do they come with the a thermostat? Has anyone bought either of these 2? are they happy with them? do they hold up well? any feedback on these is greatly appreciated thanks. Also do you all think a 32 qt sterlite is big enough for aldult ball pythons? If anyone has any suggestions or info on this rack I would appreciate it.

I have a couple AP racks (used for colubrids) and like them.

To my knowledge, the only difference between the economy and regular model is the amount of material used. The sides are open on the economy model, but the material is the same. What does this mean? The economy model will weigh less, but retain heat less. If your room temp is high, it won't matter much, but you won't be able to rely on the rack itself to keep temps up.

None of the AP racks come with thermostats, but they do come with heat.

I do not work with ball pythons so I cannot comment on the tub size for them. AP is usually good about answering questions via phone or email, so you might want to run your questions by them as well.

i have one of their economy plastic rack and this rack is also my first rack. i really like it and it's look neat. the differnce in the 2 models of economy is the one with open sides and back is plastic like the one i have. and the other economy model is made out of meaimne (i can't spell) lol anyway it's "wood". but if you get the economy plastic rack with open sides and back you would be happy with it! as with ball python no the 32qt tub is not big enough for a 4 foot adult but you can put a 2 or 3 foot ball python in them. what i have learn is you can use 41qt for most ball pythons. hope this help.

I noticed the AP racks use heat cable instead of heat tape, but it says on their website that they are now offering racks with Flex Watt. Does the heat cable work well? One manufacturer states something like "we use Flex Watt, not heat cable", so that made me think that the heat cable is not as good for some reason.

I have a couple Herp Enclosures economy racks that I'm quite happy with, but I may get one of these AP racks too.
