New Beardie

annettesmsu Oct 28, 2006 08:43 AM

My husband and i have a new beardie named "cuervo". I will post some pics soon. We have had him for about a month now and he is about 8 inches long from head to tail. He isn't very friendly. We let him adjust to his new enviroment for about 1-2 weeks and then daily we try to handle him. He does okay, gets a little mad (flattens body and puffs up his neck) but hasn't ever bitten. Also tends to be more cranky after waking up? But doesn't everyone?!? Anyways, my question is does it usually take a while to tame them? I've read that all beardies can be tamed and it can take anywhere from 1 week to several months? Is this true? Thanks for the help!

...it may take a week, it may take a year, but if you continue to handle it, (s)he should calm down. just check to make sure there isnt anything adding stress in his life. I find that alot of the time when people are haveing your problem, there is usually a dog or a cat paying it attention and stressing it out. Cant blame him for not wanting to be eatten!

I agree. It's the personality of the lizard. Most young dragons are kinda edgy like that and will tame down with regular handling. I have a lot of dragons, and each dragons personality is different. Some are sweet all the time, some are sweet but edgy at times, and then I have one, that is a monster ALL the time. It just depends on your little one. But I'm sure with what you've told us that it will calm down with time.

Good luck!
