Thank-you!

Gee, thank-you for not getting on my case about my buying that box turtle. I really know I shouldn't have done it and like I said it had been there quite a while and I had resisted the temptation a couple of months or more before this week, but I just couldn't let it sit there anymore. Anyway.......I really appreciate ya'll not being upset with me. I will take good care of her just as I do the other 10 and I will hope all will live a long and healthy life. I suppose they will be here when I am gone, so I will just have to get my kids interested in boxies so they can all 3 take a few in and care for them when the time comes.

As for changing my screen name, I will just keep the one I have as I would probably forget a new one. Ha-ha-ha! I'm doing good to remember my own "given" name lots of days. (Just kidding.....but I'm getting there!)

As for pictures......I don't know how to get one on this forum. I have e-mailed pics from my aol addy to people before but I just do not know how to put one on here.

Names for her, I can't think of any. Like PHRatz says, she uses names that relate to the circumstances of the turtle......well, I don't know what one would call a turtle that came from a groomer/pet shop. Clipper? I don't know......anyone got some ideas?

Ok....I better get my day going. You all have a good week-end. Thanks again for not making me feel bad about the new addition.
Take care! ......9boxies

Ok, here are some corny name ideas. Don't laugh at me please.

Coming from a groomer/pet barbershop - Barberina, Barbera, Beegee(barbershop girl), Geegee (groomer girl), Diva, Hairspray, Dander

Rescued from a Pet store - the obvious Lucky, Destiny, Fate, Di (divine intervention), Shopgirl

Just a few.

I always try to name my turtles based on a unique physical feature. That way, if I'm out of town, it's easier for my wife to tell me something about one of them. I have so many, she could never remember all of their names. For instance, some of my Wood turtle names are based on the grains of wood that their shells resemble...Oakley, Tiger Cherry, Maple, etc. That can be risky, though. I have an Ornate named Squirt. It was the runt of the clutch. Well, now Squirt is one of the larger in the clutch. I'm going to have to change her name. Let us know what you decide on.

Oh, and posting a picture. Go to "Photo Gallery" at the top of this page. Click on "Upload Photos". Log in. Choose category "Box turtles". Browse for the file on your computer. It can be a digital camera file, or a file from a scanned photo print. It just needs to be the correct size. It's easy to decrease the size in photo shop if you need to. The rest is self explanatory. Then, when you post a message up here, there will be a list of photos from which you can choose. All of the photos you've uploaded will appear on the list.

I love those woody names! I name ALL my rats after famous people or characters but they ALL have rat in the name. I've had Mario Andrattie, Gypsy Rat Lee, Sugar Rat Leonard, Lucy & Rikki Ratcardo, Faye Dunarat, Sofia Lorat, I could go on & on, but that's what makes me like the wood theme for the wood turtles it's a similar type of theme.

Since turtles never seem to be in a hurry, this brought to mind an image of folks of my grandparents generation: easy going, slow moving.

All of the turtles here have names from a certain generation: Mort, Chet, Herb, Clem, Ernie, Lester, etc., and the females Irma, Millie, Mabel, Ida, Fannie, etc.

Although I must say that Fannie got her name as a result of her behind being the only part of ther that was showing when I found her.

Thank-you for giving me the instructions on how to post a photo. I will try it when I have a little more time. At one time my DH didn't want me posting things like pictures, but I think he will be ok with it now. We will see. Thanks again....9boxies

As far as naming goes, I usually don't name them right away and find myself calling them something in my head before long. I had a tortoise named goober, who I did try giving a nicer name but always found myself calling her goober. Also, many of my pets came with names as they were rescued or given to me. My cat got the name Snickers because she looks like a candy bar (I didnt name her though). The tortoise I have now, Elijah, got his name because my partner met someone at work named Elijah who reminded her of a tortoise.
