Building my last cage

CaptainHook2 Oct 28, 2006 12:20 PM

I'm moving to Michigan and will be making my final cage for Moses, nearly 13 feet Burm. It will be a walk in with many levels and heat options at each level for variance. I'm also thinking of either a waterfall or just pro products misting system. I'm looking for proven and solid methods of controlling the heat in the cage. Basement gets pretty cold so insulation is the first order of business but I want to be able to control up to 4 RHP of decent size at the same time with day and night temps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was reading other posts and found some recommending the Herpstat pro. It looks like just what I need. Anyone ever use it? I don't care about on-line control, although when on vacation would be cool but; the ability to manage 4 devices at up to 1600 watts sounds great. The cage will be a walk in for ease of cleaning with shelves, for lack of a better word, for him to lie on. Lights here and there, a humidifier setting on a shelf and caged so he can't move or break it. RHP about 18 inches above every resting perch and inside a hide box. I want to keep the temps near perfect at all times in all areas. Will this product do that? I'm talking a cage about 12 feet across in the shape of a half circle. Insulation surrounding everything except the viewing window, as large as I can get, and the door (Bascially the whole front). Timed ventilation system to hold heat, yet purge the air every so often. I also plan on using live plants that will hang down (protected so he can't squeeze them out) and I'm still not sure about a pool. The last time I used one all he did was crap in it making it a pain to keep clean. If I can come up with a run to the sump pump and an efficiant way to keep it clean, I'll do it. I'm also running a water pipe to the area so I have fresh water intake as well. All this because, you know, we're all made of money and have nothing better to do! JK. Any replies would be appreciated.

I think no matter what you get so long as it preforms the function you want you will be happy.

Comparing proportional thermostats is like compareing different typse of apples, this ones green that ones red, which is better I don't know they are both apples. I prefer Green but thats me! LOL

What ever you do make sure you insulate the room really well as it will save on energy and heating costs. Foil Faced extruded polysterene is probally a good way to go.

Also I like your signature quote! So True.

Good Luck

Thanx! Any other suggestions for reliable thermostats that offer night time drops and can run 1600 watts?

Its all about the channels, each channel is a rated wattage.

A dimmer has one channel and can handle 600 vac.

Ranco is one channel at 1500w

HerpstatI one channel 500w

Hepstat ND one channel 600w

Herpstat II two channels 700w

Herpstat pro four channels 400w

So the Pro is probally the model for you just remember that you are limited to 400w per channel not 1600w.

I personally use Dimmers!

Good Luck
