I have a young 15 inch Striped Cali in a 10 gallon aquarium. When we purchased him 3 weeks ago the breeder (also the petstore employee) sold us "Forest Bark" which is 100% Fir bark.
(this is also what he was kept in at the store)He seems to like it and burrows easily in it. In reading an older thread on substrates I saw no mention of this stuff and read that pine was the most commonly used. So I'm heading to the store today for new substrate as well as themometers (yes read that thread too).
How often should I change/clean the substrate? I'm not seeing any signs of his waste in the cage, but as he's small don't exxpect to see much.
Thanks in advance for any input
John
