Our school's FB newt has been losing its front left leg. Now there's a white hollow where the leg used to be. What can I do to help this poor little thing?

Not much simpler than that with this case. Of course a husbandry review is also on the agenda-- topping this are cleanliness, temperatures, and overcrowding.
