Snake won't eat.

Coelith Aug 06, 2003 08:49 PM

Hi, a few weeks ago, my ball python stopped eating. I'm starting to get really worried because she has lost a good amount of weight. She usually eats fresh killed/frozen rats, but wouldn't take one any time I offered it. Today I tried feeding live, and she didn't even show any interest. Most of the time during the two weeks, she has been very active, making me think that she is hungry, but I'm not sure. Can anybody tell me what I should do? Thanks.

Has there been any change in her behavior? Is she soaking in her waterdish a lot, does she seem unable to right herself if flipped on her back, can she grasp and move about on a branch or arm without losing grip and falling off?? If anything has changed in behavior, she may have an infection of some sort or parasites. If she is losing noticable weight after such a short time, there may be a trip to the vet in order as well.

If your snake lost "a good amount of weight" in two weeks, you have got something bad going on. Are you speculating the loss by her appearance. Do you weigh her?? Also what do you consider a good amount of weight loss??
If you are sure of this loss, then I would get her and a fecal to the vet.

I havn't noticed any change in her behavior other than that she seems a bit more active. She is looking smaller, plus before she stopped eating, I couldn't get my fingers even close to being around here at her thickest section. Right now, I can touch my fingers together around her. I don't weigh her because I don't have a scale right now, my last one got messed up. This is about all I can say for now and I'm trying to find a vet where I can bring her, but I'm not having too much luck. Thanks
