blue beauty ?

Yve Aug 06, 2003 09:03 PM

hi, I'm considering purchasing a Vietnamese blue beauty snake. But I have a few ? before I make that decision. I've noticed that the babies are yellow and blk? Do they become blue as they mature or does the colouration vary. Also, I've found a couple general ratsnake caresheets. Does a blue beauty have similar needs or different? I haven't found a single vbb caresheet. One more thing....how long do they get? Just curious.

Hi Yve,
Blue Beauty snakes almost always hatch out greenish, and change as they get older. They are variable as adults though. Some become the beautiful blue-gray that you're probably used to seeing. Some will tend to keep a bit more of the yellow than others. Your best bet is to try and get the 'bluest' baby you can find, but I wouldn't say that's a guarantee as to how it will look as an adult. They all are attractive in my opinion.

As for size, I have adults that are over 9 feet. They stay pretty slender, but are generally active when being handled. I keep mine just like my other colubrids, but I keep them just a little bit cooler, and they seem to do fine. Spraying them a little when they get ready to shed seems to help them get the skin off cleanly.

I think you'll be happy with getting one. Good Luck.
