Is this an egg?

phiber_optikx Oct 29, 2006 06:57 PM

I found this in Hope's water bowl while cleaning/feeding tonight. I was running through things that it could possibly be and all I could come up with was that she passed an infertile egg.... She has never bred but is big enough to. It looked like a bubble. I touched it and it did not pop so it wasn't just a bubble in the water... any ideas?

It's kinda hard to tell since there is no size comparison, but it looks like a shed eye-cap.

How solid is it? Did you take it out? How big is it? Is it hard or soft?

It is not an eye cap.... it is just over 1/2" and was basically a solid squishy bubble....

Best I can guess is that maybe it was something from a food item. But what do I know. It would have been fun to play with in the lab though. I would just watch for any other symptoms, but you already know all that jazz anyway. Hopefully it is nothing.

No. Did your snake defecate in it's water bowl?

how often to you scrub your water dish? it looks to me like a layer of organic matter that has broken free from the bottom of the dish and has air trapped under it.

phiber_optikx Oct 30, 2006 02:55 PM

I scrub my water bowl fairly often. It was not organic matter because it was completely round. Like a ball. She did not deficate in the bowl that was the only thing present in the bowl aside from the "oils" that were associated with it.

a bath oil bead and you disturbed the snake before it could take a nice soak?

really.....I have never seen anything like this.......unfertilized ovum are yellow.......all yolk material ....at least usually........I have never seen a clear one or one with all white liquid.......even if you cut a snake open the ovum are yellow yolk balls to put it plainly......

........no idea.....pop it......smell it......?..good luck.....

I have had alot of odd and unexplainable stuff happen here......never saw this......

If lead paint is so deadly why do they make it so delicious?

I flushed it right after I took those pics. So I guess I will never know for sure. Even Kathy and Don were at a loss....

Looks like a mucus bubble, my first thought a sperm plug or just sperm in water and a bubble was formed and partially hardened in the air. As air always exerts the amount of pressure all around, it would be round anyway, as there is nothing to stop it from expanding into a complete sphere.
