long time no talk..BRB breeding question

xNeViNx Oct 29, 2006 07:39 PM

how have all of you been doing? this year i thought i would give my brbs a lil more room. so i put them in 4'L x 2'D x 18"H cages. they were seporated, cooled down, then put togeather. they have a high of 76 degrees and a low of 71.2. they really dont see to want ANYTHING to do with eachother. its been about 3 weeks now. and im wandering if the cage is too big? or should i just give them some more time? chaos is super active, and the male just pretty much sits there in diff spots in the cage.
thanx guys, good luck to all of you this year

I check the forums every day but it seems to be dead lately. . .

Oh well props for breeding, let us know how it works out.

Are they still eating?

I don't think your cage is too big. It sounds just right for a breeding pair. When they want to, they'll find each other. During the peak of my cooling period, my temps will go to about 68 - 69° at night. Always back up to 86° during the day. Even though I cool all of my animals the same, sometimes I have late breeders. It's still very early in the breeding season (I haven't even started cooling yet). Watch for signs of interest (male off feed, female spending time in cool end, large swellings in female), and storms. Seems to be a lot of activity during storms. Good luck and keep us posted,

I haven't bred BRB's (YET) but won't most of the breeding activity be seen after the temps have been warmed up again?

Nice list of reptilians by the way.

not in my experience they breed during the cooler temps, but higher temps during the day are used as well, then after gravid they seek higher temps up to 85 in my experience, but temps in these snakes are not well known to be the cause of success, but they do not breed like typical boas and python and or like colubrids.

my thermometer was broken. the cage was abut 68-73 degrees over all. so i raised the hot end, and is now a high of 80 degrees on the hi end, and over all drops to about 70 at night. now they cant get enough of eachother.
good luck to everyone else
