Book Reccomendation

pichereptiles Oct 30, 2006 02:20 PM

I was thinking about buying a new book and was wondering if anyone has this and would reccomend it.
The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas by Richard Ross

As we all know reptile books can be expensive and where this is an older book, I am looking for opinions before buying it.

Thank You

The very best ball python book on the market right now is without a doubt the new Dave and Tracy Barker ''Ball Python''.

Dave and Tracy put a lot of work in this edition and have not left anything out. You will find everything and then some.

I recommend it to everyone, great piece of work.

Thanks to Dave and Tracy

100% RECOOMEND THE NEW BARKER BOOK. ITS THE BEST!!!!

I have all of the new ball python books. I am more interested in that particular book for info on Woma Pythons and Dumeril's Boas. I figured since this is one of the faster moving forums, if someone owned this book they could let me know if they would reccomend it or not.

I have also posted in the python and boa forums.

Thanks for your replies though, I do agree the new VPI book is the best!

Thank You

It was written solely with breeding in mind. It is a great book, very educational with a scientific tone as well. I do like the Barkers book, but when I am looking for breeding information I want something more in depth.

Thanks for the info!

Do you happen to know if there is info in the book about Woma Pythons and Dumeril's Boas?

Thank You

I don't believe that it had specific info for each "type" of Boa or Python. I do remember Womas but I can't say for sure about Dum's. It's a good book though.

Taken from Amazon.com:
"The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas is the first reptile textbook to integrate the data accumulated by professional and amateur herpetologists in reptile husbandry with research in the reproductive physiology of reptiles. The result is over ten years of research conducted by the Institute for Herpetological Research; this book is the most comprehensive guide to maintaining and breeding reptiles in captivity available. The material in this book has been designed to provide detailed information on every aspect of captive propagation of pythons and boas, as well as valuable material on breeding and general husbandry of other reptile species. Every serious herpetologist will find this book an essential and invaluable aid."

It's an awesome book. I work in a herpetology lab and do breeding on multiple types of pythons and boas. It has almost all the information I need but doesn't have a lot of the narrative that distracts from the real information.
