feeding question

ch23119 Oct 31, 2006 09:06 AM

how much do you guys feed your alligator snappers generally? Since I have gotten mine to eat things other than fish, I realize how much this thing is always hungry. He'll eat 50 fish, thawed rat pups, crickets, grasshoppers, pellets, plants, anything. I don't want to feed him too much, but its good to know he eats well. Let me know, thanks

Well your ally looks very healthy so I would feed him as much as he will take. Mine are not too hungry and will only eat fish and they prefer the fish to be live. How did you get them to eat anything but fish? I would love mine to eat some pellets or pinkies but no luck.

i started throwing bigger fish in there, and he'd kill them but not eat them all, but would finish them later. From there, I started throwing those can o'crickets in there and he'd eat those and acquire a taste for them if they were on the ground. then some would float and he started to take those. the floating crickets then resembled the pellets and he would eat pellets. and the fuzzies were on the ground and he would eat those. hope that makes sense. it was a pain, but worth it since i can throw anything in there.

So the food you give him sinks to the bottom and the ally just eventually eats it? What about the floating pellets? I have been throwing Reptotreat Suprema into the tank to get them extra Beta Carotene ( to bring out their colors ) but they both seem to ignore it.

it started out as a response to food on the bottom, then food that was a combination, then food on top. now, he'll eat food as it hits the water.
