Juvenile Iguana Pellet Nutrition

ymerejsregor Oct 31, 2006 12:04 PM

I saw a couple of other food related posts recently, so I thought I would throw mine out here. The background story goes something like this...

Two weeks ago Bruce suddenly decided he no longer had a taste for leafy greens. He absolutely will not eat any of the "good stuff". This is not an appetite problem at all. He still devours butternut squash, carrots, about all fruit, but he ablove all else, he is like a heroin addict when it comes to those stupid iguana pellets! I have had them for about 6 months and he wouldn't touch them for anything. Now, he goes nuts for them. My question is, until he starts eating normal uro food again, are these going to supply acceptable nutrition when still tempered with the above mentioned foods he will still eat?

This little episode has been somewhat comical in a sense. He is acting EXACTLY like a little kid that won't eat their veggies. He'll literally put his nose in the air when it comes near.

I'm pretty sure that mixed with the other items Bruce will get what he needs. Mine won't touch dandelions until they are ready to shed. Once they start shedding they won't touch them. Just like you said, it's comical they way they stick their heads in the air when they don't want something. Mine are EXTREMELY picky eaters!!!

try using only one green and see if he may eat one but not another. for a long time helga ate nothing but bok choy and if i put anything else mixed in with it, she ate less because she hated picking around the other greens.

i assume that bruce is nice and healthy and you can always try to "tough love" it and only put greens in his cage for a couple days. i had to do that a couple times with helga too.
