I highly suggest ordering a can of provent-a-mite. You should be able to find it for sale online some where and if you want you could have it overnighted.

Follow the directions on the can and you should be rid of them in no time and be able to use the rest for prevention if you feel the need.

RID bedding spray for lice is the exact same product as the famous Provent-A-Mite at a fraction of the cost and you don't have to wait to have it shipped. Use it the EXACT same way because it is the EXACT same product only packaged and marketed differently. Hope this helps everyone!

I agree with Jay 100 %. Provent a mite is a great way to go.

I went to a seminar a few years ago chaired by Dave Barker of VPI Reptiles. Dave explained to the group that mites go through a nymph stage where they become air born. This means no matter how good your husbandry is. If you do not preventively treat against mites they will eventually find their way onto our snakes. If my memory is correct I believe a mite's gestation period is three weeks. This means that we have to treat our snakes every two to three weeks if we are going to stay ahead of the game.

I have been spraying small shots of provent a mite in every tub of every rack in my faciity every three weeks for the past three years. I believe it is for this reason alone that I have not seen any mites on any snake I own.

Be consistant and your snakes too will be mite free.

Good luck

Time tested and always "proven" EFFECTIVE.
Sales pitchs and yuppie groupies still cant match methods used long before PAM sued its way into the market.
Use the search feature for examples or drop me a line and Ill get ya "FIXED" quick!

I have worked around chemicals for animals for years. The active ingredients are the same, BUT the NON active may not be.Non actives have in some products been found to cause cancer of kidney failure. A product ment to not come in contact with skin, like a tent bug spray has not reason to use the safer non actives. All of the products are harm full if inhaled. I read what sounds like people suggesting to open the snake bin and spray a little in every three weeks or so. I realy hope they don't mean when the snake is in there. To inhale these products is very harmfull, and it may not be apparent right away. I may be just a little but to inhale spray or to have the mist land in the water. Try at least to spray on bedding let it dry to the touch and remove the water dish for a day. I am worried when people have unexplained deaths that it is toxic conditions that could have been avoided. I also worry when I buy an animal what it has been exposed to in the past.
I could go on and on.
be careful

Earlier this week or last week, this was a topic in this forum, as well as other boa forums. You can find plenty of info if you scroll down and read some posts from a few days ago

Lice treatments (in pharmacy department) and bed lice sprays found at Walmart and drugstores have the same ingredient in the same concentration as Provent a Mite, are much cheaper, and normally can be purchased much faster (since they can be found locally).

I hope you have good luck getting rid of them!

that using a medicine in a manner not approved is illegal and stating this on an open forum can lead to more products besides black knight being yanked from the shelves.

if the consumer uses it a way that doesn't follow directions, or if the manufacturer says that the product can also be used for other things not listed on the label? If I state that I used PAM as an octane booster in my car, could they get in trouble?

I will agree as to what he says about "inert" ingredents but still dont/wont support this product.

It is probably at the owner's risk to use Nix or whatever lice bedding spray, however I highly doubt lice treatments for eradication of lice on/near HUMANS will be 'pulled from the shelves' because it hasn't been tested for snakes.

Alternatively, the same ingredient can be bought at livestock supply stores and then diluted appropriately, if anyone is worried about inert ingredients. That way, you'd just have the mite-killing chemical (same as P-a-M) and water.

In my opinion, there is as much a chance of Nix being pulled from drugstores as of Preparation H being pulled from the shelves because someone decided to start using it as Chap-Stick on a pomeranian.
