Flagyl solution

fessler Nov 01, 2006 01:37 AM

Hi, I have a young Elaphe carinata that I'm trying to treat with Flagyl (metronidazole) and I'm wondering what people use to make a solution for dosing, as it appears to not be a water soluble chemical (i'm using pure metronidazole). Does everyone use a pre-made mixture? I know someone's going to say "see a vet" but don't worry, I'm a scientist and I've done all the math, I'm just stuck on this solubility issue.
Thanks much!

What I do know is that even mix from the vet requires constant shaking. I mean, SHAKE all up, draw a dose, maybe two, SHAKE again. So it may just be the way it is.

That seems to echo something I heard from a breeder awhile back, I guess I'll give it a good shake then, thanks Sonya.

I know this is an older post but for what it's worth.... Yes, that is what I've done also with little portioned pieces of 250 mg. tablets that have been crushed. And no, it certainly doesn't like to disolve, a portion of it seems to stay undesolved no matter how long you stir it. But after stirring for a good long time, I slurp all of it up from the "shot glass" I mix it in with a syringe that has a long stainless steel "bulb-tipped" end. I then shake it one last time just before administering to the snake. Works like a charm for me!!
