Unfortunately I had a really nice abbotts okeetee corn get a cloacal prolapse. It happened on a saturday night, no vets in my area would see a reptile that small until monday. Despite soaking and lube, it wouldn't go back in. SO I figured why let him go to waste?

This was actually the first time I have ever fed a snake to another snake. It was very interesting.

the king weighs 33g the corn weighs 10.5g and they are the same length

That is (was) a nice looking corn. When I was a kid, a friend of mine had a Cal King (wc) as a pet. We used to go herping in the wash. I remember one time we found a whipsnake that was smaller than the king.

For some stupid reason we decided to feed the whip to the king. We put it in the king's cage and all hell broke loose! It was quite a fight, and my buddy was in tears at one point, fearing for his king's life. His dad was like "Well, you put the other snake in there. What did you expect?"

That poor king was not expecting a whipsnake to just be dropped in his cage. The king did prevail though, but we learned a valuable lesson that day. Don't drop a live whipsnake in with your nice, unsuspecting cal king.

Hey Zach, do you still have that merker cal and those striped/spotted that you were trying to sell before your classified account expired? I'm not sure if I need more snakes right now, but if you've still got them I'll think about it.

Yeah it was interesting with this guys too. The king is 5 months old and has always eaten F/T. When I put in the corn he only hesitated for a second before attacking it, but it took him nearly 20 minutes to figure out how to constrict it.

and no, I sold eveytyhing I had from this season.

Cali kings are boring when it comes to eating other snakes compared to a eastern king..

I've had cali kings hesitate and even seem very scared of a prey snake. Eastern kings jump at anything with snake scent.

Have you had any problems going back to mice after feeding snakes ?
My friends Eastern king eats snakes with an insane gusto while mice he takes after awhile but he isnt nearly as interested as snakes .

My little brother has an '06 Okeetee.
My other brother is getting one of my '06 Cal Kings (assuming eggs hatch and are OK).

No - I'm not going to show them the pictures.
It would terrify one, and put mean ideas into the other ...

i must admit....it was a nice looker (the abbotts) but then you have to weigh out the options....its possible to happen again... and would you just keep helping the guy out or just eventually give up? i think you made a wise choice... just dont tell MY corns what you did

I have a 15" striped cali...I live in NC on several acres and have an abundance of Black (rat) snakes as well as others. I'm aware they are snake eaters also. Would I be safe in feeding my cali (next spring) any small black snakes? or is the risk to high?
Not that I'm one to take a wild snake just to feed my king...but througout the year I inadvertantly will hit one with the mower, weed-eater or find them damaged on the road.

It warmed up here for the past week and while walking through my woods my son almost stepped on a gorgeous 5 foot black snake.

Its a pretty safe bet that your king could take on anything smaller then him. except maybe an eastern! Its always a good idea to be there though, incase you need to intervene.

Thanks....I wouldn't miss it anyhow
