Suboc enclosures.........which size is best?

Nokturnel Tom Aug 06, 2003 10:23 PM

I have a very long Rubbermaid, roughly 3 ft. Or another a little shorter, but wider and taller. The long one is only about 8 inches tall while the other has twice the height. The snake is a subadult, not even 3 foot and slender. Which is more suitable. Both will have a ridiculous amount of airholes for proper ventilation and reduced humidity. So what's better, more height.........or longer floorspace? Tom

I would go with more floor space. I have an adult male blonde in a cage that is three feet long and two feet wide. It's only one foot tall but he never even climbs on the branch I have in there (for looks really). My smaller female is the same way. She never goes near her branch. They do tend to "stretch out" a lot, though. And both are pretty active and seem to like to roam around. So more floor space seems to be preferable. I also have lots of ventilation holes in the cages. Although, I live in Florida and the humidity doesn't seem to bother them too much.
