Please post how this happened so sellers and future sellers on those shows would know if someone is trying to pull one on them/us. sorry to hear about this incident! -Jo Carlo

Thanks for your responses. As far as how this happened, the best that has been figured out is that someone stayed in the show and was hidding under a table and once all the vendors had left and all was clear they came and began taking animals. There was a door that had been checked from the inside and outside by the show promotor but later that night this door was found cracked open which had to be from the inside.

but probably can't because you had signed a contract, right? That's really lame and sorry for your loss. I hope you recover them.

Brett

craig Nov 01, 2006 06:45 PM

there was no contract to sign, but they told me that they were liable.

boidmorphs Nov 01, 2006 06:48 PM

Were you the only vendor with animals missing? If so why do you think you were singled out? I could see if you were the only one with higher end animals but surely there must have been other expensive animals there. Just trying to make some sense of what happened.

craig Nov 01, 2006 09:01 PM

I had 3 sunglows and 2 dh het sunglows stolen they were all in one show case that they took. Jim mason of Bebo's burms had 4 dwarf retics het genetic strip stolen and Mike smith of IQW had 2 super tiger retics taken and Patricia woorley had a money bag stolen. So there were others that were hit also but there was plenty left behind there were stacks of spider ball pythons less than 2 feet from my animals, there was a show case of mine right next to the one that was taken that had 2 albinos and 3 dh sunglows in it, they didnt want that either and there was thousands of dollars worth of ball morphs and other retic morphs very easy to take but they didnt. Many of the animals at the show were not even hidden in just plan view such as adult albino balls and those were not touched but they took the time to remove a sheet and 2x4 to get to the hidden het striped retics and then take the time to put it back just the way it was, they took the time to open and remove several dehlies and remove the show case that had my sunglows in it from my roller cart. these people had a plan, they knew exactly what thye wanted.

boidmorphs Nov 01, 2006 09:27 PM

That's what I thought. No doubt here are people that scope out everything making note of who has what that they want. In this case I'm willing to bet it very well could have been one working with one of the vendors there that had plenty of time to make the rounds. Do you have a link that shows what vendors did the show? Maybe it sounds crazy now but in the future if other animals are taken at other shows a pattern or common link may be found.
I remember when there was an animal stolen at Daytona of 2003. There was a special section here at Kingsnake saying, "thank God the cameras were rolling", etc. complete with picture of the animal but the actual name of the boa morph was never even mentioned. I think it was taken from Chicago Reptile House? Whoever it was, I wrote them for more specifics on the stolen animal but they never got back to me. IMO the more information put out there the better we can keep our eyes and ears open to help recover stolen animals.

craig Nov 01, 2006 09:46 PM

I will get a list of the vendors that attended the show and post that tomorrow. Your right the more it is exposed the more likely something will come out of this.
Thanks again for your responses.

jasonmc Nov 01, 2006 11:25 PM

Did you go to the police?
If the promoter was the last one out, I would question his involvment with the theft. It's suspicious that he did'nt make you sign a contract waiving resposability. You should talk with a lawyer, especially since we are talking so much money.

Sorry to hear about your loss, and I will keep my eyes out for you as well.

a litrtle closer. If it was my show I would have stayed behind and MADE DAMN sure there was no one in that building and there was a security guard there ALL night long. Promoter should be held liable.....

craig Nov 02, 2006 08:55 AM

Thanks for the response. Yes the police was called out as soon as it was discovered that there was a brake in.there is a full scale investigation taking place hopefully some will come of it.

The best that can be figured is that they were taken between 5:45pm -9:30pm saturday night no new anything until Sunday morning when we got the show.

craig Nov 01, 2006 06:46 PM

Sorry, they said they were not liable.

boidmorphs Nov 01, 2006 06:34 PM

Thats a bad lick, sorry for your loss.
BUT! knowing the area like I do and the behind the scenes info
that trickles thru the grapevine never has been very positive about most of those thieveing bastards in the DFW area.
Some have 4 digit incomes and still STEAL !

What goes around always comes back around.

Best Of Luck

craig Nov 01, 2006 09:08 PM

thanks for the response. Yeh, that might not be best place for a reptile show.

metachrosis Nov 02, 2006 07:57 PM

Its not so much the place but the entire area !That place is over 60 freaking miles west to east!!
I lived out there for 22 years and couldnt be more happy to say it in past tense context.Metro areas as a whole really dont suit me.The concentration of Real World proves to be something I can live without.

A thief is nothing but trash. I used to work in law enforcement and there was always something about a thief that burned my a**. People work hard to get something and then these people just come and take it away. If the perps are reading this, you may have gotten some expensive animals but you are still the dirt on the bottom of my shoe. If these cowards are caught hopefully the same thing happens to them that use to happen to the scum we caught. There was this nice corner behind an old warehouse, no cameras, no one could see from the highway...oops, did I say that?

danktat Nov 01, 2006 11:02 PM

I am not even sure what to say to this other than I will be on the lookout. It always hurts when a hobby that is already persecuted by many has those from within it ruining for the rest of us. I hope the perpetrator/s are caught and that the punnishment fits the crime.
