Yup, that's the stuff. It's free & all over the place. Being a yard & roadside item, just be sure it's not from an area where herbicides or insecticides have been used. Our Uros like them but, like dandelion leaves, they wilt really fast & are best served later in the day.
Thanks. I didn't know if it was the flower or not.
Well, down here in Florida we have lots of "Crimson clover" with the big red "flowers." None of our guys care for the flowers but they do relish the leaves, which are of that "shamrock" look. I would think, though, that with any edible plant variety, both leaves & flowers should be offered & let the lizards decide what appeals to them. I know alot of folks offer Hybiscus flowers but ignore the leaves. The leaves are a super source of nutrition, the Uros like them & they're FREE!!
By the way, come Spring, plant Nasturtiums. They love poor, unfertilized soil, Uros love them & the more flowers you pick the more they produce!
Hey thanks Arredondo for the tip. I foolishly have only been offering Hibiscus flowers to Scooter.I live in Arizona and have them growing in my yard. I never thought to offer the leaves. Now we'll have to see if Scooter likes them.
I love this place!!!
Wow! Arizona... You're so lucky. What we'd give to live out there. I dream of night riding the roads there, down into SW Texas & New Mexico. Sigh...
Do I feed the flower of the Nasturtiums or the leaf?
There's really not much to the leaves. Kinda small & puny. The flowers, though, are super bountiful.
