Hi everyone,
Is the Miami Serpentarium a place that tourists can visit (as well as a venom collecting lab)? We're headed to FL and I'd love to go if it is open to the public.
Thanks, Christy

Negative. Bill Haast closed up shop & moved to the Punta Gorda area several years ago. That facility is not open to the public. One alternative you have if you wish to visit a facility like that is the Reptile World Serpentarium near St. Cloud on State Road 192. George Van Horn has a fine collection there, & does venom collection every afternoon. The location is about halfway between I-95 & the turnpike, 30 miles south of Orlando, & 30 miles nw of Melbourne.

I have been to George Van Horn's place and it's great if you're really into snakes. The venom extraction show is great, and George is a very down to Earth guy.
The former site of the Miami Serpentarium is now the new site for the recently moved Parrot Jungle and Gardens. I hear they have a reptile house, or will have one, but I haven't been there since they opened.
The site of the old Miami Serpentarium is now a shopping mall. I worked at the Serpentarium in the early 1980s. It was a fun place to work but very run down.
