meahllmoron x corn a rootbeer?I started a line of rootbeer corns many years ago and they look almost the same. Not saying it was a bad name but I havn't kept up much on rats/corns etc....and was suprised when I clicked on a post below that read rootbeer's.I was expecting corns that had emoryi in them but weren't amel (creamsicle).
Anyway, about ten years ago I crossed a emoryi with a normal looking corn that was dbl-het ghost. They all hatched out a rootbeer brown with nice squars on there backs. They never got really big but were heavy bodied and layed about 8 eggs every time.
I will p[ost a pic of a clutch in the next post.I lucked out with holding back 1.3 of them and they ALL turned out to be het for ghost.I produced allot of normals (rootbeers) and some anery's and some hypos and a couple ghosts. The hypo's were killer and acaully looked better than the ghosts.
Anyway,I will post a pic or two.I sold babies for about three years and then I sold them off here and there and havn't heard much about them.I always advertised them as having emori in them but they were basically (non amel)creamsicles.

Hey Shannon, I have heard of non-amel emoryi/corn crosses being refered to as rootbeers for quite awhile now (six to eight years now). To me it seemed it was just a catchy name to help sell the non-amel cross babies which many though were junk byproducts of developing creamsickles. However, I remember one breeder in the Lousiana area who refered to locality specific Kisatchi corns/now slowinski as rootbeer corns back in the day as well. Which I quess theoretically worked as a description because slowinski was/is (?) believed to be a very old integrade/now considered full species, but still derived from eastern corn/western emoryi cross at one point. Kind of like goini now. The slowinski that I have seen from areas of Louisiana appear to be a more rich and darker brown color than the corn/emoryi crosses, or even what is considered pure emoryi IMO.

Kevin,Yes I remember also of the L.A. breeder.Anyway,I was just suprised to see the post below as I havn't really kept up with these things.Anyway, its a pretty fitting name for alot of corns etc....
I just used it cause the normals looked rootbeer brown and if everybody went with the flow they would know that it was a non amel creamsikle.
Its all good,
I havn't seen anybody selling any rootbeer morphs that stemmed from me?wonder wre they all went?
