Genetic Head Pattern??

midnightherps Nov 02, 2006 12:24 AM

Anyone know if this head pattern has any significance as a het marker for anything? This male was purchased a couple years ago and is said to be het albino but no paperwork with him.
Not trying to alude to the idea that this marker is some sort of het albino trait.
Just curious if any of you have balls with this mark and has it seemed genetic or beneficial?

I have a neat female with a wild labrynth pattern that posseses the same head marking. Im tempted to breed them together this year. Im having a hard time letting go of a big female thats breeding a visual morph for a male thats probably normal. But theres that curiosity about the compatibility of the mark.

Thanks
Brendan

There are a number of snakes that have that head pattern and are genetic such as, yellow bellies and fires (niether of which yours looks like). That male does have a mildly abberant pattern on his body as well though. The alien heads blend together, some of the eyes are elongated and I think I see some squigles around the eyes. Seems like enough to warrent a dinking project to me!

Looks like your ball needs more humidity, the shed is coming off in pieces. Other than that, I don't think the head pattern signifies anything as my female normal ball python has a similar pattern to her head.

The only pattern I see is one of poor care...

You might want to ask husbandry questions before you ask about trait markers. Your snake needs more humidity, probably a bigger water dish and a nice soak in some warm water to get that shed off. It looks like the only shed that is coming off of that snake is on the bottom and that is probably only because he is moving around and it is wearing off. Don't worry about traits before you worry about proper care.

Thanks everyone for your concern about my husbandry skills.
I typicaly almost never have shedding issues. Theyre quite rare. For the record I take meticulous care of a great collection.
I was hesitant to post the pic with his incomplete shed anticipating the inevitable focus it would draw. Like I said...rarely incomplete sheds.

No Worries.
Happy Breeding everyone.

I would say why not try to prove something out? Everyone else is. Good Luck and pray for recessive.
