One egg broke

PHRatz Nov 02, 2006 01:54 PM

I visited the eggs again this morning.
One broke. Nobody touched it, the incubator wasn't being moved, nothing was going on but it just broke in there on it's own.
I guess that one wasn't any good?
No telling right now if any of them are any good.. just have to wait & see.

I know you have mixed feelings but it would be cool to hatch some cute little tiny torts that become such giants.

Yeah I do have very mixed feelings but after seeing our girl work so hard that day I have to say that at least 25% of me hopes some of the eggs will hatch.
So far I have 6 people wanting a baby, 4 of them I feel very confident about, 2 I'm not so sure of but since it takes so long for eggs to hatch I'm hoping that if they all do I'll find more people before the time comes.
Besides since my vet has the eggs, she wouldn't allow anyone to take one the moment it hatches.. she'll want to keep them around for a little while to make sure they're strong & healthy.

I've seen hatchlings before and oh my gosh they are too cute!!

I understand your mixed feelings. I have 4 (2.2) adult sulcatas. They are all rescues. I can't imagine what I would do if they bred. Would I destroy the eggs, hatch them? I know I can't care for 30 hatchlings (i already have 4). But there are so many bad homes out there....but there are so many good homes too.

Exactly! Our big girl is a rescue, all of our box turtles are rescues.. most of our pets are rescues. I hate bringing more into the world if there's no place for them to go.
I took 3 of the eggs on day one then took them to class with me the next day to show the students. I know those are no good.
Then so many people wanted me to try hatching them & the vet wanted to try it too. When I dug them up I found 2 were broken already, then one broke in the incubator so that leaves 9 eggs.
I have 4 people lined up who work in the vet field & are very interested in giving them a good home. That leaves 5 still in need.. 4 if I were to keep one.
IF she lays more eggs I will not take those to the vet's incubator.
I told myself I would destroy them all but then.. after I'd watched Destiny work so hard that day I just didn't have the heart to destroy all of her work. I WILL make myself do it if she does lay more later on.
We'll wait & see what happens.
