New geckos-Tons of Q's

Slizarus Aug 06, 2003 11:31 PM

I recently aquired a Leopard gecko colony of 2 het for patternless a high yellow lavender all females plus a Rainwater albino male from a friend for a very cheap price
my friend is a good keeper but pretty crappy with leos although he gave me a 10 gln tank with everything i feel it's too small for 4 geckos plus my original
Can I keep 2 adults to a 10 gln tank and maybe 3 in one of them? Or do I have to buy new tanks currently I'm looking for minimum size as I don't know how long i'm going to stay at the house I'm in and I don't need to set-up a 75-100 gln as a temp home.
also I've been looking at their tails I've noticed they have thin tails in comparison with my original but he has had eggs from this group I've heard that non-adequate fat stores could lead to pre-mature death how can I fatten them up? With pinkies?, I don't have a scale is there any way to know when they are heavy enough to breed without one?
When I breed my Rainwater albino to my Original leo a High yellow lavender what will I get?

Sry for so much I'm just really excited I'm been looking for a male Rainwater albino for a long time

A ten gallon is ok for 2 adults but not 3. A 20L is ok for 3 possibly 4 if you wing it as a temporary setup. Yes pinkies are a great way to fatten them up......

The thin tails probably has something to do with them having been breed. get there fat stores back up and as long as they are old enough you can breed them, a good way to judge there fat reserves is to look for fat bubbles on the geckos under the front legs. If you breed the rainwater to the high yellow you will get hatchlings that range from normal looking to high yellow but they will all be het for albino.

I hate to buy anything from petco, but they had a sale on 10 gal aquariums at $5.00 off, so a 10 gal (no lid) for $6... I had to get a few.... you should go to petco.com and see if there's any specials going on in the store near you... but whatever you do, DON'T go in the reptile section... it always makes me sooo sad. at least they started putting moistened paper towels in the baby's tank thanks to my constant griping.... Good luck!

2 adults in a ten is really pushing it. A 20 long would get you by for a while with all of them. Superworms (zoophoba) put the weight on quick. I consider them the ultimate leo food.
