Bolivian boa questions

saphira69 Nov 03, 2006 06:16 PM

I am considering purchasing a male Bolivian silverback Boa (B.c.amarali)
I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them.
I already own a 5 foot male Ball Python and a 2 yr. old female Brazilian Rainbow Boa.
I am looking for information about size(girth) and weight that they attain and temperament if anyone knows.
I do know that these snakes are said to grow slower than some, so it would be several years before it would attain it's maximum size. But I just want to do all my research and know what I'm getting myself into before I purchase a larger snake.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Cindy

In my opinion, the bolivians are one of the best boa's around. I have had my male for about 3 years now and you can see how large he is from the photo. I've actually cut back a little on his food intake. my male has never shown any signs of a temper at all, I can poke around in his cage day or night and he'll come and "smell" my hand and just let me do what I want to do. I recently picked up a female bolivian to pair up with my male, she's just as docile. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a bolivian.

Wow, he is a good size snake. And he's only 3 years old?How much does he weigh? How much bigger do you think he will get? He's definitely gorgeous though!
I just want to make sure I don't get a snake that I will not be able to handle myself, as I'm not that large myself(5'3"-LOL
I'd hate to not be able to lift him out of the cage...

I have actually never weighed him since ive had him but i know hes about 6 feet long. Not too heavy though and I dont expect him to get much bigger at all. If it helps from the photo im only about 5 foot 6 myself.

Oh, okay. You just looked taller in the pic.
Thanks a bunch for posting pics and helping me out.
Iam seriously thinking I want a Bolivian now...

Whew, glad I'm not the only short guy around here.
5'6" of little man fury (syndrome) myself.

Man, I really like the silver Amarali, but I think I'm "maxed out" on housing capacity right now.

If I can get my Argentines to produce next year, I should be able to get the ok for a pair of Amarali. I really don't need the ok for the Amarli themselves, moreso for the space of the 421 boaphiles that they'll eventually need.

For now, I can enjoy them through others, so post up people.
: )

Do you have any pics of your female? I took some pics of me with my girl with my friend's camera a week ago, I just need to get them uploaded. Hopefully tomorrow.

I've got a pair of silverbacks that are my favorite boas of all
time. I wasn't sure what their dispositions would be like, but
they're both little pussy cats. They're extremely calm & easy
going.
